Joseph Pintz

ceramics | bowling green, ohio

Joseph Pintz’s functional and sculptural ceramic work explores the role that domestic objects play in fulfilling our physical and emotional needs. Inspired by his Midwestern roots, Pintz often recreates hand tools and other seemingly mundane objects. In the process, the dense meaning of these objects is transferred into clay.

Pintz earned a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology and urban studies at Northwestern University and completed post-baccalaureate studies in ceramics at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. In 2006, he received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and in 2006–2007, he was a resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts where he was awarded the Lincoln Fellowship. He currently teaches ceramics at Bowling Green State University.

Cosponsored by Musuem of Contemporary Craft

Free and open to the public. Attendance is limited to the first twenty people to pre-register. UPDATE: This workshop is at capacity.

Join ceramist Joseph Pintz for a hands-on, one day workshop at the Oregon College of Arts and Craft to explore hand built vessels.  Utilizing a variety of handbuilding techniques including additive processes and reductive carving, participants will create an assortment of utilitarian and sculptural forms using bisque molds. There will be a strong emphasis on surface, not as an afterthought, but as an essential design element. Finishes that highlight surface texture such as terra sigillata will also be covered.  Workshop will focus on creative experimentation; pieces will not be fired.  Open to all skill levels.
